Ian Henderson

Ian HendersonIan followed a degree in statistics and Operational research at UMIST with an early career at the industrial machinery manufacturer Massey Ferguson (MF). It was in the production control function at MF that Ian first got involved with developments in production scheduling and inventory management. He led the introduction of new planning and tracking procedures for finished goods and later took responsibility for the Master Planning function.

Ian moved into consultancy in 1984, joining the Organisation Development Group and in 1987 was appointed Divisional Manager for operations in manufacturing strategy. He has led MRPII, Lean and many other initiatives in a range of industries involving both standard and Engineer to Order products, and provided supporting education and training for staff involved with these new techniques. His clients include Tatung (UK), Ingersoll-Rand, Dresser, Farrel, Hattersley Newman Hender, Flowserve and Alstom / Areva. In recent years his experience has been split between consultancy and interim management work.

Ian has a black belt in judo and various arthritic joints from being thrown around dojos up and down the country. The youngest of his three children has just commenced University so he now supports a wife and one child – together with Hartlepool United and Sale Sharks where the family have a block of season tickets.
